Signs And Symptoms
Depression can range from mild or temporary feelings of sadness to a chronic low mood that just won’t go away.
Depression can leave you feeling overwhelmed by negative thoughts about yourself, lonely, tired, and dissatisfied with your life. It can also impact your self-confidence, magnifying problems and mistakes.
When depressive moods and feelings become persistent and ongoing, it can cause you to experience a loss of interest in activities that were once normally enjoyable to you. When depression sets in, you may experience some of the following symptoms:
- Decreased energy, feeling fatigued and/or an anxious mood
- Difficulty concentrating, indecisiveness and/or a pessimistic outlook
- Loss of appetite, weight loss or weight gain
- Unable to work, maintain your household or care for others
- Lack of joy, sadness or feelings of emptiness
- Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, hopelessness or helplessness
- become increasingly self-critical
You are not alone. Depression affects millions of people around the world and does not discriminate. It can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, income, education, culture or age. Depression can distort perceptions about yourself, the outside world and your future. This can lead to an impairment in daily functioning, affecting your home, work and social life.
If you are experiencing depression, you may have strained relationships with your family, friends, and people in your workplace. Ultimately, depression can prevent you from living the life you want.
